La explicación, a juicio de los investigadores, es simple: el sólo hecho de caminar hacia la parada del autobús hace que las personas se muevan más.

En Estados Unidos, el transporte público de cercanías no está tan desarrollado como en los países europeos. Por ello, los expertos piden a los políticos estadounidenses que inviertan más dinero en esta materia y mejoren la seguridad y el atractivo de las sendas peatonales en las ciudades.

"Las inversiones en el transporte público ofrecen la posibilidad de reducir la obesidad de la población", aseguró John M. MacDonald, director del experimento.
